A2300 Improvements

Provelio were appointed as Project Managers for the design and build dualling of the A2300 near Burgess Hill. The aim of the project was to support the delivery of planned housing and employment growth that would in time increase the number of cars on the road. The dualling of the A2300 would improve highway acess between the A23 to accomodate the new housing and commercial developments, and also provide suitable conditions for pedestrians and cyclists.

2.5km of the road were upgraded from single carriageway to dual carriageway between the A23/A2300 and the Northern Arc site access roundabout, 5 junctions along the route were modified to accomdate the dual carriageway and a 2.5km combined cycle and footway was installed along the length of the scheme. In addition, signalisation was changed at the Western roundabout of the A23/A2300 interchange.

The role included robust consideration of compensation events and alongside the QS, quotations; use of contractual measures to deal with concerns about programme and quality in liaison with the NEC supervisor; reviewing and agreeing of works information, specifications and contract documentation and ensuring advanced works are undertaken within ecological constraints and.

It also required extensive stakeholder management, with both the contractor, client and various external stakeholders such as Highways England and Homes England. This was managed with regular reporting and exception reports. In addition, the PM duties included working collaboratively with the client and contractor to ensure the design developed would gain Department for Transport funding and then developed a stage 2 target cost for agreement and construction.
