Long-term Maintenance Programme
The University of Southampton was facing a pressing issue regarding the long-term maintenance (LTM) of its aging estate. With numerous large assets showing signs of deterioration, there was an urgent need to address critical maintenance work to ensure the safety of occupants and to modernise the university’s infrastructure.
Furthermore, the growing backlog of maintenance tasks reached a point where it poses operational risks. The situation necessitates a substantial increase in financial investment compared to previous years to effectively manage the LTM pressures on the University’s estate. The University had identified a programme of improvement works that will be delivered over approximately 6 years.
The University appointed Provelio to:
– Develop a delivery strategy that will maximise the improvement value of the works while minimising the disruption to the teaching within the University.
– Provide a governance structure to analyse, challenge and support the delivery of the programme and ensure that the LTM works are delivered to the strategic benefit of the University and not piece-meal.
– Provide all systems, documentation and management to control the works economically, logistically, operationally and safely. Develop live dashboards so that live status information can easily be accessed and understood.
– Develop an Estates data system that captures all condition, progress and project information so that live dashboards can be utilised in monitoring the delivery of the programme and the improving condition of the estate. This data system is to also capture and report on added value elements of the LTM delivery such as carbon reduction, compliance and reduction in operational costs.
– Provide leadership and vision to the delivery team to drive the delivery of a challenging and complex programme that will touch every aspect of the operational University.
