Provelio were the project managers for a series of refurbishment and maintenance works at the main university library. Problems identified within the library included an insufficient fire suppression system, poor design of temperature and humidity control, and a leaking roof. Provelio’s role included conducting a feasibility study and options appraisal in order to determine the key issues and options for remedial works, and management of the full remedial works.

Provelio were initially asked to undertake a feasibility study and options appraisal that looked at how the identified issues could be addressed. It was concluded that the following works were required:

Install new membrane over existing roof. New membrane will include new roof profile to resolve ponding issues.

Construct waterproof “boxing” arrangement around all duct penetrations to improve the long-term resistance to water ingress.

Construct new bund around existing plant room to stop water ingress.

Replacement of parapet edge detailing at roof perimeter.

New walkways around new plant to ensure safe and compliant maintenance access. These walkways will be above the roof level due to the Bigfoot system.

Pigeon netting to be installed over area of new roof mounted M&E plant.

Removal of 18 Air handling units (AHU) from the existing flat roof. o Replacement of 15 AHU’s with new equipment.

Replacement of all ductwork associated with AHU’s and chillers up to the roof boundary (not inside the building).
