Sulis Elective Orthopaedic Centre

Client: Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust
Sector: Health
Service: Programme and Project Management
Value: £25M

Provelio are appointed as Project Managers to deliver a new regional Orthopaedics Centre for Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. The aim of the project is to enable the Trust to separate their elective care pathways from their main hospital site.

The new facility will be an extension to the existing Sulis hospital, just outside Bath. Inside, it will include a modular surgical service consisting of two new operating theatres, x-ray suite, stage 1 and 2 recovery rooms, seven extra day case pods, wards and consultation space. The scope of the project includes upgrading two existing theatres to Laminar flow and integrating both the operational flows and infrastructure with the existing hospital. This has resulted in careful phasing, decant and logistics to minimise disruption to the existing live hospital.

We are appointed to deliver the project from RIBA stage 0 all the way through to RIBA stage 7. The project is currently in construction phase. Provelio have managed the development of the Strategic Outline Business Case (SOC), the procurement of the framework partner through the Procure 22 framework and the re-engagement with clinical teams to reduce the project scope. We have also managed the submission of the planning, finalisation of the construction contract document and agreement of the contact. Provelio are now managing the NEC Option C contract, leading on the co-ordination and logistics within the existing hospital. The Orthopaedic surgical extension is designed as volumetric modular construction for speed of build and minimising operational impact to the existing hospital and the project is on programme to commence clinical activity in January 2025.
