Severn Pathology

The new build and refurbishment of a pathology services building. The four-storey building houses cellular, microbiology, neuropathy and genetic pathology services alongside the services provided by Public Health England. The building includes CAT 3 laboratories (for research and testing), offices, a Telelift systems, and clinical and treatment facilities. The aim of the project was to provide a high quality and innovative service across the South West region through its approach to technology and collaboration.

Provelio were both the client project representative and the NEC Project Manager from RIBA Stage 3, through the contractor procurement process and up to completion of the works.

Severn Pathology provides all pathology services to main trust hospitals, therefore there was a 0% tolerance on any disruption to the facilities operations. In order to provide complete assurance to the client that this would be adhered to, full M&E service identification surveys were carried out to ensure that the project was fully aware of how the building operated and was supplied with power. Based on this information the refurbishment works were then split into 27 phases, which limited the disruption to an absolute minimum. In addition, weekly user interface meetings were held informing key users within the building what works were to be carried out that week, ensuring they were kept up to date with all building works.
