Tisbury Campus

Provelio were appointed as project managers for the refurbishment and development of a community campus within the heart of Wales. The aim of the project was to provide services required by the community, placing the local public’s needs at the heart of the plans whilst maximising use and efficiency of the council’s building stock. The campus itself is located next to a new housing development and was therefore deemed to be a significant asset in ensuring the new residents had adequate and easy to access community facilities.

The project involved refurbishing an existing school building and leisure centre (all on the same site) to provide a new central community facility, as well as the construction of new space. The existing fabric was upgraded to provide improve thermal performance and all existing glazing was replaced. A biomass heating system was installed as part of the Council’s wider sustainability policy, which has achieved significant carbon savings.

The new facilities included:

• A leisure centre with outdoor pool
• A learning and skills centre
• Business incubation units (linked to the skills centre)
• Library facilities
• ICT provisions
• Space for young people
• Multipurpose activity rooms (including space for learning disabilities)
• Offices
• Reception areas
• Welfare facilities
• Nursery
• Gym
• Sport Hall

The project faced many challenges including issues related to SSE wayleaves and bankruptcy of the M&E contractor. The team had to work closely to try and minimise the effects on the project; this included regular liaison with the nursery school, local councillors and the leisure team.  This involved regular site visits, weekly meetings and constant programme reviews.
