Provelio were the project managers on the refurbishment of a student residential building located in a conservation area within Bristol city centre. The project was to replace a previous accommodation block which had suffered severe damage in a fire in 2015.

Since the fire incident, the accommodation block had been vacant and was therefore causing a loss of earnings to the client. To prevent further losses, it was Provelio’s responsibility to ensure that a fast-track programme was implemented and that the deadlines were met, setting milestones for duties and deliverables and driving the project team to keep within these deadlines.

The initial phase of the project focused on ensuring the building was watertight, followed by a demolition phase to remove the internal partitions that had suffered fire and water damage. The re-build of the 6-storey building could then commence with a strong focus on improving the student facing facilities. A key change to the building was ensuring that all student flats had en-suite bathrooms, this was achieved through utilising modular bathroom pods which were created off-site and delivered, complete to the worksite.

The final project included the refurbishment of 121 accommodation units all with en-suite bathrooms, shared kitchen areas, additional senior residents’ flats, social space within the basement and ground floor and study space.
